The Click Five's Empty
This lyrics of the song is simple, but I think it is extremely powerful.
The Click Five - Empty
-------------------------
Tried to take a picture
Of love
Didn't think I'd miss her
That much
I want to fill this new frame
But it's empty
Tried to write a letter
In ink
Its been getting better
I think
I got a piece of paper
But it's empty
It's empty
Maybe we're trying
Trying too hard
Maybe we're torn apart
Maybe the timing
Is beating our hearts
We're empty
And I've even wondered
If we
Should be getting under
These sheets
We could lie in this bed
But it's empty
It's empty
Maybe we're trying
Trying too hard
Maybe we're torn apart
Maybe the timing
Is beating our hearts
We're empty
Oh oh
Oh oh
Oooooh
Oh oh
Oh oh
Maybe we're trying
Trying too hard
Maybe we're torn apart
Maybe the timing
Is beating our hearts
We're empty
We're empty
We're empty
--------------------------
What do we do with emptiness? If it is something that needs to be filled or occupied, we should be doing something about it. The lyrics portray another different perspective of emptiness.
I don't know if my interpretation is correct, so pardon me.
Here, the sense of emptiness is so great that it becomes a barrier to get things done. "Tried to take a picture of love... I want to fill this new frame, but it's empty", "Tried to write a letter in ink... I got a piece of paper, but it's empty".
The emptiness is so filled with emotions that it overwhelms the person. The person wants to get things done but cannot do so in the face of emptiness. The emptiness grapples the will and desire to make it not empty. The more I hear the song the more intriguing I feel.
You are supposed to be in command if given something empty, you can do what you like with it. Imagine the emptiness controlling you... scary.
And the tune is depressing too. Check out this song if you are free.
