Its ONE TERAAAAAA!
Hahahahaha! Bought a 1 TB Maxtor external HDD for just $189 at Cyberactive. Was at Sim Lim and was looking at the prices for the same HDD, and they were mostly at above $200. So damn tulan until i decide to go Cyberactive and see that it is cheaper at Compass Point. Can't believe it.
Anyway, need the HDD to store wadeva I need to backup. Hmm... 1 terabyte of space... That is suppose to be 1 times 1024 gigabyte times 1024 megabyte times 1024 kilobyte times 1024 bytes. (1024 because it is 2 to the power of 10. Boring binary code stuff.) That will make up to be 1,099,511,627,776 bytes.
However, when I look again after I plugged it in, I discovered that it only had 1,000,000,000,000 (one trillion) bytes, about 9.05% less than what I percieved. Damn. It turns out to be 976,562,500 kilobytes, or 953,674 megabytes, or 931 gigabytes, or 0.909 terabytes. Felt so damn cheated.
Nevertheless, I would be storing my mp3s in this new HDD. If all of the HDD is filled up with mp3s, I wonder, how long will all the mp3s play? Assuming all the mp3s are of 192 kilobits per second (192kbps), that will be 196,608 bits per second, or 24,576 bytes per second (1 byte = 8 bits). Given that I have 1 trillion bytes, there would be 40,690,104 seconds worth of songs, or 678,168 minutes, or 11,303 hours, or 471 days, or 15.7 months (30-day), or 1.29 years! WOW!
If it were the true terabyte hard disk, I would have 44,739,242 seconds, or 745,654 minutes, or 12,428 hours, or 518 days, or 17.3 months, or 1.42 years. Hey, i was shortchanged 0.13 years! Damn!
